Cosmetic & Restorative

Cosmetic dentistry has become very popular in the last several years, not only due to the many advances in cosmetic dental procedures but also because patients are becoming more focused on improving their overall health.

There are many cosmetic and restorative procedures available to improve your teeth and enhance your smile. Depending on your particular needs, cosmetic dental treatments can change your smile dramatically, from restoring a single tooth to having a full mouth make-over. Ask Dr. Fakler how you can improve the health and beauty of your smile with cosmetic dentistry.

Cosmetic Procedures

Teeth Whitening: Whitening lightens teeth that have been stained or discolored by age, food, drink and smoking. Teeth darkened as a result of injury or taking certain medications can also be whitened, but the effectiveness depends on the degree of staining present.

Composite (tooth-colored) fillings: Also known as "bonding", composite fillings are now widely used instead of amalgam(silver) fillings to repair teeth with cavities and also to replace old defective fillings. Tooth-colored fillings are also used to repair chipped, broken, or discolored teeth. This type of filling is also very useful to fill in gaps and to protect sensitive, exposed root surfaces caused by gum recession.

Porcelain Veneers: Veneers are thin custom-made, tooth-colored shells that are bonded onto the front of teeth to create a beautiful individual smile. They can help restore or camouflage damaged, discolored, poorly shaped, or misaligned teeth. Unlike crowns, veneers require minimal tooth structure to be removed from the surface of the tooth.

Lumineers: The No-Fear Porcelain Veneer - Lumineers is a thin porcelain shield that is bonded to the front of your teeth to create a dramatic change in your smile.

Restorative Procedures

Porcelain Crowns (caps): A porcelain crown covers the entire visible part of the tooth with tooth colored porcelain. Crowns protect and strengthen teeth that cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restorations. They are ideal for teeth that have large, fractured or broken fillings and also for those that are badly decayed.

Dental Implants: Dental implants are artificial roots that are placed into the jaw to replace one or more missing teeth. Porcelain crowns, bridges and dentures can be made specifically to fit and attach to implants, giving a patient a strong, stable and durable solution to removable dental appliances.

Dental Bridges: Bridges are natural-looking replacements for lost permanent teeth which can restore normal chewing abilities and preserve jaw alignment. They are fabricated of natural-looking porcelain fused to metal, modeled to appear as one of your teeth and cemented permanently to the neighboring teeth.

Dentures: Dentures are removable prosthetic devices designed to replace missing teeth in the upper, lower or both arches. Partial dentures are dentures that replace only a few missing teeth and clasp to existing teeth. Complete dentures replace missing teeth after the teeth have been removed and the tissues have healed. Immediate dentures are dentures that are placed immediately after the removal of the the teeth and relined after healing is completed. An over-denture is a denture that fits over a number of remaining natural teeth or implants.

Dental Crowns: Dental crowns cover the entire visible part of the tooth (above the gum line). Crowns can be made out of ceramics like porcelain, metal alloys or a combination of both materials; porcelain and metal. Dental crowns are used to improve the cosmetic appearance of a tooth, strengthen a tooth or restore a tooth to its natural shape. Teeth with excessive wear or cracks can benefit from being covered by a dental crown.
